How to tell if you have diabetes? (aka The symptoms of diabetes)

With the drastic inflation of Type 2 diabetes in the U.S (and worldwide), how do you tell if you have it? As noted in a recent post, 1/3 of Americans whom have diabetes ( an estimated 10-20 million ) have developed diabetes as a result of lifestyle habbits, genes or both but don’t know it yet.

There are many signs, here are a few to look out for:

  • tiredness, lethargy, weakness
  • passing urine often
  • excessive thirst
  • weight loss
  • heart disease
  • kidney damage
  • impotence
  • nerve damage
  • blindness


“In type 1 diabetes, symptoms usually develop quickly, over a few weeks. In type 2 diabetes, symptoms develop slowly or there may not be any symptoms at all. Diabetes may only be detected on routine screening.

When blood sugar levels become very high there’s a risk of coma that may be fatal.”

1/3 of U.S. Adults Diabetic and Many Unaware

As an article over at foxnews points out, up to 1/3 of Americans now have developed Type 2 Diabetes and do not even know it. Its amazing how these numbers keep on inflating at such a dramatic rate. People are really going to have to start heavily considering their lifestyle if developments like this are of any concern.

As the article points out that would mean the total is up to around 73 million.


“As many as a third of American adults with type 2 diabetes don’t even know they have the disease, according to alarming new findings from the National Institutes of Health and the CDC.”

Some Diabetic Friendly Recipes, Diabetic Sweets and More

Here is an interesting article from the BBC about being diabetic and eating sweets along with other recipes. It is a very large misconception that diabetics can’t have ANY sweets AT ALL. Alot of it has to do with the source of the sugar along with moderation and balance of other foods during ingestion.
