Posted on: Monday, June 19th, 2006 at 5:51 pmWith the drastic inflation of Type 2 diabetes in the U.S (and worldwide), how do you tell if you have it? As noted in a recent post, 1/3 of Americans whom have diabetes ( an estimated 10-20 million ) have developed diabetes as a result of lifestyle habbits, genes or both but don’t know it yet.
There are many signs, here are a few to look out for:
- tiredness, lethargy, weakness
- passing urine often
- excessive thirst
- weight loss
- heart disease
- kidney damage
- impotence
- nerve damage
- blindness
“In type 1 diabetes, symptoms usually develop quickly, over a few weeks. In type 2 diabetes, symptoms develop slowly or there may not be any symptoms at all. Diabetes may only be detected on routine screening. When blood sugar levels become very high there’s a risk of coma that may be fatal.”
Is some of this relatable to your situation? Here is an article on how to know if you have diabetes at the BBC that gives some good beginners info regarding diabetes, diabetic symptoms, diabetes causes and treatment.
